Update: Gary's 'Hot Lap' This Sunday

Celebrity line-up for the IG Markets Charity time-trial on Sunday in Central London
On Sunday 18 September, the final day of the Tour of Britain, the UK’s biggest pro cycling race, seventeen celebrities will line up for a time-trial at the heart of London for the Prostate Cancer Trust. Don’t miss the opportunity to see some of the UK’s most famous sporting stars, as well as actors and media celebrities pitted against the clock alongside City Execs on the same course as the pro cyclists!
Each celebrity will captain a three person team for the 8.8km sprint around the heart of London and there is plenty of incentive to raise money for Charity as every £100 buys the team a one second reduction from their overall time.
Among the celebrity team captains are sporting stars Chemmy Alcott, Britain’s leading Alpine skier; Shirley Robertson, double Olympic Gold medallist sailor and TV presenter; Tasha Danvers, Olympic Bronze medallist hurdler; Nick Dempsey, Olympic bronze medallist and Windsurf World Champion; Ben Saunders, the polar explorer and ex-footballer Mark Bright.
These athletes join BBC Casualty actor Tristan Gemmel, actor and Spandau Ballet guitarist Gary Kemp, BBC Radio London’s Robert Elms and household TV presenters such as BBC Ski Sunday presenter and five time Olympic skier, Graham Bell and ITV’s cycling presenter Ned Boulting, among others.
Together the celebrity participants have won four Olympic Medals, scored 167 League and Cup goals, conquered the North Pole and had ten Top 10 hits.
The IG Markets Hot Lap is scheduled to kick off at 1300hrs in the wake of the professional time-trials that take place during the morning and only a couple of hours before the final stage of the Tour of Britain which starts at 1545hrs.
Gary Kemp said: “I fell in love with road cycling about four years ago. I love the camaraderie, as well as the high that the combination of endorphins and aesthetics gives you. I also quite like the toys! Last year I did my first étape and this year rode from Chamonix to Nice over classic passes such as the Izoard and the Isseran. I also managed to fit in Mont Ventoux while on holiday with the family (sorry Lauren!). I’ve never done a time-trial before but I’m looking forward to riding the closed roads of my city and then watching the pros screaming around them afterwards. This has become an obsession. Now where did I leave my guitar?”
